Silent Movie Night at the Bennett’s

Late in 1997, we began showing silent era films in our home to an invited group of friends and family. We wanted to entertain guests more often and introduce them to some of the silent era’s best films.

Early on, each showing was on our 45" rear projection television from home video versions of the films available on DVD, laserdisc and VHS videotape. Today, the showings are presented on our 60" high-definition rear projection television from Blu-ray Disc and DVD. The lights are turned out, the music turned up and the movie snacks served around. Carl introduces each film with an impromptu history and biography, and answers a few questions after the showing.

Below is a listing of the films that have been shown, with the major stars and/or the director listed after. The 1999 showings were interrupted by our having moved into a new home and the subsequent remodeling. We have since learned that it is also better not to attempt to show films during the end-of-the-year holidays and in the early summer.
