Died 28 March 1976 in North Hollywood, California, USA, of emphysema.

Married Ruth Austin; divorced.
Married actress Jobyna Ralston, 28 January 1927; son, actor Richard Arlen Jr., born 17 May 1933; divorced, 4 September 1946.
Married Margaret Kinsella, 1946; until his death.

Richard Arlen began in motion pictures as an extra in 1923. Having served as a noncombat pilot for the Royal Canadian Flying Corps during World War I, Arlen was a natural choice as one of the stars of Wings (1927).
