Société Lumière production; distributed by Société Lumière. / Cinematography by Louis Lumière. / Cinématographe spherical 1.30:1 format. / Reputedly the first motion picture made by the Lumière brothers. The first French film production. The production was shot at Usine Lumière in Lyon, France, on 19 March 1895. The film was first shown at the first performance of the Lumière Cinématographe to a private audience at the Société d’encouragement a l’industrie Nationale in Paris, France, on 22 March 1895. Lumière film number 91 [first version]. The film was remade as La sortie des ouvriers de l’usine Lumière (1895).
